Don’t miss this: David Swenson in Zurich

David Swenson is one of the most experienced yoga teachers still teaching in the West. I went to one of his workshops in Berlin a couple of years ago and I learned so much from in these couple of days. Book Recommendation: Yoga Mind and Body

During my travels in Southern India I fell in love with Sivananda Yoga – a system of yoga quite different from the Vinyasa Flow Yoga that dominates yoga studio in the West. It integrates the five principles (1) exercise (asanas), (2) breathing (pranayama), (3) relaxation, (4) diet, and (5) positive thinking (Vedanta) and meditation (dhyana) into a comprehensive approach to life. The book is a short and to the point introduction to Sivananda Yoga. It contains excellent illustrations of the key…

Book Recommendation: Functional Anatomy of Yoga

I liked this book a lot because David has a talent to explain complex things in an understandable way. The illustrations are great and helped me to understand the key concepts of anatomy much better compared to other anatomy books I bought. Most importantly, the section on how to apply human anatomy in practicing and teaching yoga was very helpful. Click on image for more details.

Your Brain on Yoga

Book recommendation: Your Brain on Yoga

Author Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, Ph.D, assistant professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, has dedicated himself to clinical research on yoga and meditation for more than a decade. He offers scientific evidence about how yoga and meditation can change our brains, and our lives. He explains how a regular practice can reduce your heart rate and blood pressure, increase lung capacity, and help treat conditions such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia. This book also gives some guidance on how to find the…

Handstand practice

Practicing handstands for me has a lot do to with focusing on the breath, being fully present, cultivating a sense of lightness and at the same time being alert and energized. It has also taught me to be patient, persistent, to accept failure and to approach my practice with a sense of kindness and playfulness instead of pushing myself towards achievement. Enjoy the journey – practice and all will come
